The Silver American Eagle was first minted in 1986 and is the silver equivalent of the Gold American Eagle; the United States’ most popular coin. The obverse design features Adolph A. Weinman’s design of Lady Liberty draped in an American Flag walking among sun rays. John M. Mercanti’s design of the Shielded Eagle with an olive branch in its right talon and arrows in its left; is featured on the coins reverse.
