The 1/4oz Britannia features one of the portraits of Queen Elizabeth II designed by either Raphael Maklouf, Ian Rank-Broadley or Jody Clark on its obverse and a design of Britannia on its reverse. The Britannia is a symbol of the quality of British minting which was added to The Royal Mint’s Bullion portfolio in 1987 in response to the growing Bullion Market.
UK Bullion coins, including The Sovereign, Britannia, Lunar and Queen’s Beasts are exempt from UK Capital Gains Tax (CGT) for UK residents only due to being legal tender. CGT is tax levied in the UK on the profit made on disposal of assets. It differs from Income Tax in that only the gain is taxable.
